A child using the DBS.
This was an early model of the Digital Binocular Station (DBS), installed in the Christchurch Cathedral for the SCAPE 2008 Art Biennial.
The artist Lonnie Hutchinson created a stylised cultural interpretation of the land the Cathedral was built on, referencing the marshlands and Maori burial grounds in the area.
Though this early model was technically Virtual Reality, not Augmented Reality (no view of the real world), a semi-transparent version of the real Cathedral is visible, and the content is anchored to the real world (moves as the head moves).
